Back to painting and blogs

It seems forever since the Daily paintings and the blog posts. I needed to stop the Daily paintings and it was harder than I thought. I had to really reorganise my work space, not paint for a few weeks and generally reevaluate the Painter's progress. There seemed little point in continuing if the paintings were not going anywhere but being stacked up in the spare room. Try another gallery but haven't been successful so far.

Anyway, I am back creating paintings for my own spaces . Next stop my bedroom. What do I want...... Wrap arounds ( by that I mean that each painting is butted up to the previous one and there is a flow from one to another, like I have done in my. French room. ) I wanted to do the bigger size of  33 inches square and had already a board cut ( need to get some more done ) I thought that I might put some figures on , maybe the children when they were younger..... But have to mind not to be sentimental.

Anyway I put down a few layers of grotty colours to use up the paint ( like veridian ugh ! ) then set off putting the paint down randomly. I like to blen but sometimes then blend it into bland !  Beware.
Leave it to dry . Revisit tomorrow.
Flat on the work table

Propped up ( light gone already )

Try another few before I critique / diss them !
Perhaps look again at the greys in the distilled landscapes.

Art Lounge and fed up

When I am researching, it annoys me immensely when I find an exiting blog and it just ends. Well, in a way, that's what I have done. I loved the Daily painting project but it still seems pointless to do anymore paintings if the ones that I have done don't go anywhere. As an artist, you do ask yourself, ' would I continue if no-one wanted my work ? ' we all do our art for a set of reasons.......because we love to create......because it makes us happy ( well sometimes ) .....because it gives us an income ( well if I did it for the money , I would defo do something else ) so, this , in a way, is a test. If the Daily paintings are strong enough , they will return.....

I am enjoying turning my house into a galley..... This now is the Art lounge ......

Big scrabble letters made out of the backs of books
Day bed made out of a bed with two crates at either end ( that hold paintings ) It's ten foot long.
Drawers from Emmaus charity shop
Chair, still a work in progress
Tall lamp with a frame around it ( love it ) made with surplus bed slats from Emmaus
Small storage made from a wine rack. I made long , slim cardboard boxes that are ideal for my brushes etc

Love it.

Tonie Rigby French room

Seems so long since the Daily Painting project when I was completely into the painting and the blogging. I am having a break from painting. It all seems so pointless if the paintings don't go anywhere and although I have tried a few galleries , I have had not much luck. So, I am busy creating in a different way... Redecorating rooms and turning my house almost into a gallery. This is my French room.

I have used the Daily paintings ( distilled landscapes ) to form a wrap around display in the room. I made the sign just out of card.

Liked the wrap around display. It did remind me of the South of France, although the paintings were not specifically about France.

This bedding chest was done by the Upcycling group I run at Emmaus Mossley. Loved it.

Cushions made from patchwork vintage textiles from Emmaus Mossley.patchwork bedspread also from Emmaus.

I painted the bed white.

I painted and distressed the mirror, decoupaged a table mat and have been experimenting with preserving flowers in glycerene.

We have had the footstool for around 25 years. It looks good decoupaged .

Tablecloths as curtains.

Box decoupaged with napkin.

Bottle decoupaged by the Upcycling group and paper flowers made out of napkin using the concertina method.

I mounted paintings and just put them up with blue tack but in the end thought it was too much so took it down. Maybe if that was the only art in the room it would work.

Although I have never really been interested in interior design , I have enjoyed this room so much.it hasn't cost a lot of money , mainly things were from Emmaus Mossley where I run my Art group and Upcyling group. I love it.

Painting in a building site

Trying to get my workspace straight again today. Can't actually get to my painting table. Managed these yesterday but really know at this stage they are well likely to be painted over.
Above was a 33 inches square.

Above was a 52 cm sq. Mmmm. They feel like almost not there paintings.

No painting building work continues

So, still not able to get the workroom up and running, so no painting. Upcycling groups yesterday and today so thought I would share those with you.

First few days work on a chair for my Art lounge. It does take a long time to make a patchwork slipcover but I hope it 's going to be worth it.

These next photos are of Upcycled furniture on sale in the showroom at Emmaus Mossley. I run a group there of volunteers who paint furniture, sew cushions, make art and craft items all to sell in the showroom at a Emmaus Mossley.

Painting day ( all day ) tomorrow  !

Seascapes

Seascapes this week and next in the Art group. Will try to get enough to put a display up in the showroom. Title, at this stage, ' I must go down to the sea again....'

First artist Dion Salvador Lloyd. Love his work.

Below. A display of his work at the Saffron gallery. Lovely.

Below is the work of contemporary artist Chris Bushe

Chris Bushe compared to Dion Salvador Lloyd......work closer to the picture plane....calm and turbulence in the same picture.....more about the viscosity of the paint......more defied areas of colour.....strong...masculine .....placed.Mmmmmm.

So, some of my dailies could be seascapes or not as the case may be........what shall I paint today ? ......

Below ....just the prep for the Art group... Techniques used.....palette knife, thick paints for the waves, splattering, using a fan brush for blending and putting the paint down in kind of a stripe, painting over old unrelated paintings.......
Mine were awful this morning ....he ho....you can't win them all....I didn't want to paint seascapes anyway !

Dion Dalvador Lloyd......sea...texture...blending....sublime...tones...drama...strength...different sizes...depth/ distance...white mounts...masculine...strength....everything really. Mmmmmm.

New windows and doors in the Art lounge and studio

Had to battle to find time to paint this week . Not good. But the upside is new windows and doors. Lovely ! So my plan was to make work from one of the ones from last week. This was the one I wanted to make a painting from.

Below. First stage.looks a little like a tapestry at this stage.leave overnight.

Below. Needed more lights and darks. And more color. It had looked like a bleached landscape .

Below. Kind of returned it to a bleached landscape .

 So.....words.......gentle......bleached.....exactly my landscape........moving ( well to me anyway ) .....
Take a few hours out to make work in and around these colours / style. Wonder what they would look like at 52 cm sq. or 12 cm sq. Try it.

Below ......looking back at the frames I have had made for the Dailies at 52 cm sq,
At this stage, I do prefer most of them without frams, just displayed on their own.Mmmmm

Had a lovely paint today. Love the small ones. Complete and utter pleasure.
Above. I paint the small ones on top of a piece of card and almost incidentally create new work by cutting up the underneath card.

Below. Lots of small ones this morning.

Above......painting over one of the 52 cm sq Dailies. Miss this size soooo much. Need to do a few more. This mornings work is......abstract.....cool........empty ( lots of space in them ) .......limited pallette.....love them , well, TODAY .
