This weeks seemed a display of 2 halves. The first 4 used glazes but weren't really in the spirit of the daily paintings- they took too long.I am living the paint and pinterest but not the blog - can' t see the point yet.

This week I put up a display by my Art group at Emmaus Mossley. around 28 paintings and mainly mounted and framed in white. I found it really hard to get my own work to work with the white. Interesting. I have the same hanging system at Emmaus just a wooden baton and tacks in the back of the work so I change it easily.
Daily painting no 55 ( May 2014 ) warmth in pink, acrylic on board , 52 cm sq.
Does my art have too many influences ? Jury still out on that one but I have had this feedback from 2 artist friends, Raad and a Helen so bear this in mind. I have looked at the art of loads of artist but I love researching other artists.

What diminishes your art ?
cheap paper, paints, supports
Shoddy mounting and framing
Artists themselves bad mouthing their own work
? Does the sheer volume of work diminish your art? Well no ....think of Picasso....he created around the 50,000 works of art.... I've got a long way to go yet.

Daily painting no 50( May 2014 ) This is not a sky.
Having done 50 paintings now, my conclusions are;
I love it
I've got more confident with my paint handling skills
I use tons of white
Still feel that the muse might desert me any day
Love the smell of the paint, particularly on the hardboard
Need to be more organised in the studio and I am

Daily painting no 46( May 2014)' Distance,' acrylic on board, 52 cm sq.The paintings have to reach 10 out of 10 before they get the title of ,'painting,' but they are still needing a few days, 'resting time,' before I make the decision on whether or not they are a painting or a reject to be painted over.
Daily painting no 43(May 2014) 'Two trees,' Acrylic on board,' 52 cm sq.I love this green- it's Daley Rowney light olive. I never normally use green from the pot but this is transparent and just lovely.When I looked at this painting, I felt that it shouldn't have worked,the apparent horizon was across the middle and I would not normally put two, but three trees in. I liked it though.
Daily painting no 42(May 2014) 'It's peaceful,'acrylic on board,52cm sq.The daily painting project , for the moment, massively suits my creative process.it gives me something to focus on and each week it's kind of like another little project.i love the start of a new project - I like the buzz of it.I hate when a project reaches a plateaux and having to work through that to complete and finish.
Daily painting no 41(May 2014 ),'Where does the tree end and the water begin.'Acrylic on board. 52 cm sq.My painting process with most of the daily paintings is to paint intuitively and instinctively, putting the paint down, getting lost in it and almost looking for what appears in the shape of a landscape.

If I go into the studio and don't feel much like painting, I mix little pots of new colours up. I looked at light red yesterday. I don't much like light red, it's too opaque and flat. The bottle I have has lost it's label so I don't know what make it is. But mixed with a warm golden yellow, or magenta, or pale olive green, it!s glorious.
Daily paintings displayed on the charcoal wall. I preferred them on this background. This week I have still felt as if I wanted to do a display of 8 rather than individual paintings. That might change but for the moment it's fine.in most of the rooms in my house, I have wooden rails, painted in the same wall colour so I can just put small tacks in the back and hang them up.
Daily painting no 34, ' Phlourescent pink and blue brusho trees,' mixed media on paper,52 cm sq.The blue brusho came from an old painting.The brusho came right through the acrylic layer.The brusho is so intense and I have a love/hate relationship with it. We do use it quite a lot in my art group but it gets everywhere. For those that don't know, brusho is kind of a powdered watercolour/ink. It is jewel like and very transparent.
Daily painting no 33,' The branches frame the water.'Mixed media on Guardian newspaper on board.This painting came from one of my photos along the canal - but I like my landscape paintings to be universal. I don't want them to be about a particular place - for me it's about the feelings that I have in the landscape and wanting to put them into paint.

Daily painting no. 32 ( April 2014) Ochreness. Acrylic and gesso over old painting on paper.52 cm.sq.Finally caught up with posting all the daily paintings and will see where this takes the blog. At this stage, I have been looking into the why's and wherefore's of daily painting. Some say that there may be an element of just painting to get one done on the day. Maybe I would agree with that but so what. If you haven't got any discipline or rigour to go in the studio and paint, even if you don't want to, then you won't produce as much work and won't progress.
I can see and feel my progression even after just one month of painting.
If I go in the studio and don't have an idea to paint or a plan , I mix colours up , often using tubes of paint that I don't like. Metallic blue, for example. Maeve in my art group gave me a big tube of it . I don't like metallic paints in general, but mixing it with vermillion and white produces beautiful deep, warm purples and slatey greys.
